GEAR UP SWV students have access to 24/7 on-demand online tutoring through Tutor.com! Whether it’s core subjects or electives, academic support is available whenever students need it. Many participating schools also offer high-dosage tutoring in Algebra 1 and ELA 9 to support students during their transition into high school.

These free, hands-on experiences help students build confidence, discover interests, and develop real-world skills. Whether it’s exploring careers, trying something new, or getting a feel for campus life, every camp helps students take the next step toward their goals—and stay on track while school’s out.
About GEAR UP SWV
Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a 7 year federal grant designed to increase the number of students who are prepared to enter and succeed in public and private colleges, universities, and community colleges immediately after high school.
Who We Serve
GEAR UP SWV serves students attending Mercer, Monroe, Summers, Raleigh and Wyoming public school who will graduate high school in class of 2028 and 2029.

Mentoring
Comprehensive mentoring is central to how we support students—covering academic advising, career exploration, college prep, counseling, and more. Through our partnership with Student Success Agency, each student in participating schools is paired with a personal agent to help guide their academic journey.
Financial Literacy
We’re committed to helping students understand their finances and funding options for college. From FAFSA workshops to money management sessions, we’ve got students covered!
