Dual Credit Dual Enrollment

Welcome to the Dual Credit and Dual Enrollment webpage for GEAR UP SWV. Dual Credit and Dual Enrollment courses give eligible GEAR UP SWV students the opportunity to earn college credit before graduating from high school. Taking college-level courses can help students save time and money, strengthen college and career readiness, build confidence, and get a head start on achieving their postsecondary goals. In West Virginia, Dual Credit refers to the course (a college-level course that awards both high school and college credit), while Dual Enrollment refers to the student’s status of being enrolled in both high school and college at the same time. The terms are often used together because students taking Dual Credit courses are typically Dual Enrollment students. Explore the resources below to learn about eligibility requirements, participating institutions, and how to get started.

How do I sign up for Dual Credit or Dual Enrollment classes?

The eligibility requirements depend on the college or university offering the course, the high school, and the student’s academic record. There is not one statewide set of GPA or test score requirements that applies to every student in West Virginia. Students must meet the minimum criteria established jointly by the high school and the participating institution of higher education. We are here to help each student have this opportunity.

Students should speak with their school counselor and/or their GEAR UP SWV Local Coordinator to determine which Dual Credit and Dual Enrollment opportunities they qualify for.
